Our Top 10 Films of all Time. (Part 2)
The controversy continues below with the 2nd part of our epic top 10 films list. Never has a list caused such debate since Moses popped down the mountain with 10 commandments for a good life and mentioned the aduletery bit.
5. Saving Private Ryan (1998 - 5 Oscars)
I have put this in for the start if the film. Don't get me wrong I think this is a fantastic film with a decent story but the recreation of the D-Day landings on Normandy beach blew me away, This is the first time I had seen a film that realistically portrayed the true horror of war in an action sequence that you can totally believe in. Without this I think it would have been a good but not outstanding film but with this scene I think it deserves its place in the Top 10.
Part 2 of the Top 10 coming soon...................
4. Fallen (1998 - 0 Oscars)
I will try not to ruin the film here for those that haven't seen it but I will probably fail miserably. Again this is a film that won't make most top 10 lists but I love the concept and have decided to include it. Have you ever watched some ghastly story on the news about some crazy psycho committing some horrible deranged murder or mutilation and wondered why anyone would do that? I have often wondered if they are in some way different or have had some totally different upbringing to end up doing these things. This film starts as a normal serial killer type film with Detective Hobbes trying and succeeding to apprehend the killer, a man called Reese. After Reese's execution Hobbes continues his life until he notices other murders with a similar MO that catch his attention. The film then takes an interesting twist into who was really responsible for the murders and how he can stay undetected so easily in a city of millions. I think I have avoided ruining the film but have probably written the lamest synopsis ever.
I have just realised the trailer gives the game away somewhat!
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981 - 4 Oscars)
I tried but I couldn't leave Indy out of the top 10. My reason is that the world would be a poorer place without the intrepid adventures of Mr Jones. I am probably looking through rose tinted glasses but - they just don't make em like this anymore! Set in the Thirties, Nazi's, Harrison Ford, Hat, Whip. Need I say more? Max Mosely would probably have voted for this one. The recent dire outing spoils things a little. Never go back.
2. James Bond Films
Ok so this is a blatant cheat but I couldn't leave James Bond out of a film list, The problem I have is I don't think any of them on their own stand up as top 10 film but together as a series of films I have to include them. Imagine a world with no 007, no gadgets, no one liners or raised eyebrows and without those bond girls. Also what a soundtrack. Is there a better movie soundtrack than bonds? It has to be here. I am a fan of Daniel Craig as a Bond and Casino Royale I thought was one of the best Bond for years so I have used this as the trailer but this is for the whole series of films not Casino Royale.
1. Updated soon.....
The disclaimer.
I just want to make a few points to ensure I don't get inundated with hate mail.
1. The list isn't in order or greatness just the order I remembered them.
2. These are the films that I remembered as I wrote the list in half an hour. I am sure if I wrote the list again it may change a bit depending what mood I was in. That said I think all the 10 are great films that would have very few people not enjoying them if watched from a perspective of watching a good film rather than is it one of the top 10 films of all time which will probably always set them up to fail.
3. If you think a classic is missing (The Shawshank redemption anyone?). Then drop me a mail and I may add it in. We are nothing if not democratic.
4. I am now realising there are about 20 other films that I think should be in the Top 10 so I haven't been able to refine the list as much as I would like. I am having doubts!
